How to record a podcast

Equipment Available from the Library

You can borrow the following recording equipment from the Library:

Accessories include:

  • Shure SM58 microphones & 4x 1m-long XLR cables (compatible with the Xenyx Q1204 mixer and the Zoom H5)
  • 4 K&M 25995 table microphone stands
  • 1 Behringer HA400 4-channel headphone amplifier + cables + 3.5mm jack adapters
  • 12 foam pieces to reduce reverberation in Bubbles (no reservation, upon request at the loan desk)

To reserve any of the equipment above, use this form at least 2 days in advance.

  • The items will be prepared for you at the loan desk.
  • Loans can last for 1-7 days and will not be renewed automatically.
  • If you need special service or conditions (urgent request, long loan, workshop, etc.), please contact library@graduateinstitute.ch or come to the information desk during opening hours (Monday-Friday, 10am-5pm).
  • If you do not return the items on time, you may be fined and/or barred from further loans. Contact us early in case of unexpected issues.
  • If an item is damaged or after a significant delay, you will be charged for its replacement.

Miscellanea

You can also check our video recording equipment.

Sadly, the Library does not have a studio for recording. You may use the Bubbles (using foam pieces mentioned above to reduce reverberation) or take the equipment to another location of your choice. The quieter, the better.

The Library can provide you with a 6-month licence key for Hindenburg Pro, a recording and editing software that is both performant and easy to use. Please contact library@graduateinstitute.ch for more information. When this programme ends (2024), we have recommendations for some alternative software.
