WTO: Official Documents & Legal Texts

A selection of relevant resources on the WTO

Introduction

The original GATT was negotiated in 1947 and came into force in 1948. Subsequent years saw a series of eight negotiating rounds under the GATT, until the launch of the Uruguay Round in 1986. Most of the WTO agreements are the result of the 1986–94 Uruguay Round negotiations, signed at the Marrakesh ministerial meeting in April 1994. Negotiations since then have produced additional legal texts. New negotiations were launched at the Doha Ministerial Conference in November 2001.
