UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW)

United Nations Conference to Negotiate the First Legally Binding Instrument to Prohibit Nuclear Weapons
16 February, 27 - 31 March, 15 June - 7 July 2017

The Conference was held at United Nations headquarters in New York from 27 to 31 March and from 15 June to 7 July 2017. It was chaired by Ms. Elayne White Gomez, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Costa Rica to the United Nations Office and other International Organisations in Geneva.

The aim of the Conference was to prepare a text to complement other texts on the prohibition of inhumane weapons and international disarmament, nuclear weapons being the last weapons of mass destruction not to be subject to a total ban.

Documents relating to the adoption of the TPNW are a donation pf the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Costa Rica to the United Nations Office at Geneva.
